I learnt many things from my trip down south this Chinese new year. I learnt that it is actually not difficult to bring joy into people’s lives. I learnt that you do not have to live in a mansion for your house to be a palace, and that the warmth of a loving family is the most royal paraphernalia a home would ever need. That the laughter of children sounds sweeter than a symphony orchestra. That the quirks of siblings will always be beautiful because of its idiosyncratic worth.
I learnt that nothing bombastic needs to happen in order to keep up the excitement. I learnt it is the little things that fill in the gaps in life the best.
All this, and the sheer ecstasy of a cool bowl of ais kacang on a hot sunday afternoon.
