Buttered mantis prawns. As recommended by Jessica. Who says you can’t judge people by their profile photos?

at our beachside resort bertaraf rumah tumpangan. the most interesting part of the photo was nei’s kawaii mama pose. the most exciting part of the new year decor were the deflated balloons in the background.

rupa-rupanya, there are still more photos rolling in from our new year bash at cherating…~!

so this is apparently what you do at the beach when water conditions just don’t permit entrance. i was actually looking out for a bit of surfing but could not find any. the other regular beach activities could not be found either. guys, maybe we should try going to beach when it is not monsoon season for a change, no?

pessimist: one who, when he has the choice of two evils, chooses both. ~ oscar wilde

well, looks like the part two made its way through the cyber waves over the weekend and i have deemed that too many of the pictures are not suitable for public consumption. not because they are not notoriously hilarious and are really actually all in good ‘clean’ fun. but because you, the innocent reader, will probably have far too many questions that i may not be able to answer with justice.

so, i present to you, from RC’s cam, the decent beach photos. yes, between the windows of no rain (but no sunshine either, damn), we attempted the beach.

this is cherating beach, on the club med side. i am not sure if we are trespassing here, but no one was there to halau us out. i guess they figured that if we were crazy enough to want to wander into the beach masa musim hujan ni, then it our own pasal. heh.

calling in on teluk cempedak. and of course, ‘the’ time to go to teluk cempedak is at night for the bazaar and the street fair. apparently, if you are a kuantan-ite, this is what the locals would deem as the coolest hangout place in town.

and the jam really vouches for this place lah. so we thought, okay saturday night, let’s do what the local boys and girls do, and there were hundreds of people all over the place, in a crowded, but actually, not too messy way. okay, if these photos are anything to go by, it is testament that people might give you a funny, curious kinda look, but the let you mind your own business. these pictures were taken on RC’s cam on timer. we had the space and we felt okay doing it with people around.

oh, but one thing about this time of the year is that if it is not raining, the bayu laut that blows is like crazy.

the most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart. ~ elisabeth foley

the following are selectively chosen photo from our annual new year reunion. selective, because uncle will murder me with his bare hands of the more… ahem… compromising photos ever became public. and he knows where i live. and where i work. heh.

so this year, we ended up in cherating. and RC got a good deal on a “branded” hotel lagi. as we were all excited to go. you know, it had been a screwed up year and we’re more than happy to leave the city for the beach anytime (yes, even you nei). and all that seafood overdose! oh yes, the cholesterol doctor’s dream come true. we’re there!

only that when we got there did we realise why the rates are such at what is supposedly a peak period of the year… because it was the monsoon season and just about everything on the east coast is washed with spats of rain! and the hotel… okay macam ni, one foursquare contributer described it was a resort bertaraf rumah tumpangan. and i could not have chosen more suitable words for it.

but you know what they say, what is a bad weather and a crappy hotel, when you got awesome friends (cue group hug… aw…). i mean, look at nei! admit it lah, you would rather jump into the pool than to be planted in front of your computer rite? rite…….? :)

and no akurian gathering would be complete without THE PRANK. and since its the new year, it just absolutely had to be on our favourite target. now uncle, before you start cracking your knuckles, i chose the blur photo okay. i mean, no one could see that it is you being sprayed point blank in the face by nei in this picture. heh.

and so, while readers who do not have access to the akurian photo album in facebook will not be able to see the absolute delight of the mental anguish caused by the attack, you will just need to content with this picture which describes a small fraction of the celebration. oh yes. happy new year to you too.

but back to my travel writer mode, this was my first trip to cherating and i am personally a bit disappointed by the condition of its beaches. i have been to balok beach and teluk cempedak before and i have heard so much about cherating, that maybe its just me and my expectations build about east coast beaches.

but cherating beach was brown and frothy the colour of mocha. even i would not go near the water and i am absolute sucker for sea water. sigh. i keep telling myself that maybe it is all the sediments from the monsoon. that it is that time of the year when things are just unsettled on the sea bed and that’s what causing the colour. that if i came back to this very stretch of beach at a more favourable time of the year, the water would be a world better than this. sigh.

and back to our regular programming. well, you recognise this picture. we quite shamelessly do this everywhere we go. its a trademark. we have done it in the most public areas you can imagine. so teluk cempedak was no exception.

so that is it for now. expect a part two to this somewhere along. because the others have not loaded their pictures yet. busy much, guys?

it was the night AFTER christmas…

ever on the search to find the trendiest food in the most obscure places… yes RC, anywhere outside SJ, if the distance is more that 15 minutes drive away, it is obscure… we decided one day that we were cool enough to hang out in bangsar. pegi all the way there makan ape… wait for it… makan nasi lemak, kak!

okay lah, granted that some superheroes in the group ventured out into the wilderness of KL (another obscure place) several times just to hunt down this tanglin beast (mostly coming back with stomachs filled with something else), i just had to find out what all the fuss is about. and the verdict… well, it is either that i have ridiculously insane expectations on hos spectacular this nasi lemak would be, or that i am just not a foodie. personally, i think its the latter. nasi lemak is nasi lemak :P

from there, we went to have coffees, lattes dan yang sewaktu dengannya. oh, and a secret santa thing. because… well, just because. that’s why.

that photos belong to RC. but you know, i think it looks much nicer on my blog than on his facebook. also, because your blog is kinda… you know… comatose. duh.
